Updates to Graduates 2024

Dear Fellow Graduates,

Updates to Graduates from the College Management

(December 2024)

As we approach the close of 2024, I would like to take this opportunity to share some important updates from the College Management. December often brings a blend of anticipation and busyness as you conclude your work and look forward to the festive celebrations.

Graduation Ceremony

On 30th November 2024, we held an inspiring Graduation Ceremony at St. Andrew’s Church, attended by approximately 500 guests. We proudly conferred 58 bachelor’s degrees, 60 higher diplomas, and 28 professional diplomas upon the graduating class of 2024. We were honoured to have The Most Revd Andrew Chan Au-ming, Archbishop and Primate of Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui, as our distinguished Guest of Honour. The ceremony was a joyous occasion, made even more memorable by a choir performance and a group photo session.

College Assemblies

This year, our four College Assemblies in the first semester were conducted smoothly, revolving around the theme “Journeying Together in Our Sunny Lives.” We were privileged to hear from notable speakers, including our President, Prof. Simon Ching Lam, and Mr. Johnny Leung from Our Hands Green Association. The December assembly was particularly special, featuring a brief sharing by Rev. David Lee, followed by a festive performance to celebrate Christmas.

Government Scholarships

We are delighted to report that many of our students have been honoured under the Self-financing Post-secondary Scholarship Scheme (SPSS) for their academic and non-academic achievements. The Student Development Office is currently organising interviews for SPSS 2024/25. Furthermore, applications for the Reaching Out Award are open until 9th January 2025, providing a valuable opportunity to engage in outreach programmes beyond Hong Kong.

Student Welfare

Despite the spatial constraints of our facilities, we remain committed to enhancing the campus environment and student welfare. You may have noticed the addition of a new fridge in the Student Common Room, as well as improvements made to the patio area.

Academic Development

Since its establishment, GCC has been tapping into different funding opportunities provided by the Government.  The Research Matching Grant (RMG) is particularly a major funding source supporting various research projects of the College in recent years.  To enhance the academic development of faculty staff, GCC will continue to apply for the next round of the RMG to be launched in May 2025.

Alumni Affair

We are thrilled to announce the launch of our long-awaited Alumni Association, which has been formed as a continuation of the previous Steering Committee. This inaugural association aims to establish a robust foundation for our alumni community and will operate on a one-year transitional basis. We also invite you to explore our new Alumni Association Website at [alumni.gcc.edu.hk], where you can register, stay informed, and connect with fellow graduates.

As we conclude this message, we extend our best wishes for a prosperous and fulfilling year ahead. Thank you for your continued connection to our college community.
